Talent Sync

Chrome extension that enables us to collect and enrich up-to-date candidate experience data for our recruiters and clients.

Outcomes

Ninety-eight percent of candidates are now sourced through our Chrome extension to ensure that their information is up-to-date. We can connect ninety percent of companies back to our third-party data sources to provide rich information about those companies. The additional data significantly improved the accuracy of our AI-powered Scorecard. Saving candidates to a search has been condensed from a six-step process into a single click.

The Challenge

Having outdated candidate experience data led Bolster’s clients and recruiters to review candidates on LinkedIn rather than using our platform. Additionally, our AI-powered candidate scoring and reviews would be less accurate without up-to-date information. We used a third-party data provider with rich insights into candidates and the companies they’ve worked for, but often, their data had a 3-6 month lag. How could we get the best of both worlds? Up-to-date candidate experience, while also preserving the depth of available data.

The Process

We recognized that LinkedIn had the most up-to-date information and that we needed to develop a Chrome extension capable of scraping data directly from it. Given the significant value of this feature, we invested considerable design, engineering, and data resources into continuously improving it over six months.

Collaborating with Engineering and Data Science

Building a Chrome extension was new for everyone on the team. I collaborated closely with engineers and data scientists as we explored what was possible on this new platform and how to merge our data sources into the final UI.

Interaction Details

Throughout the process, we collaborated closely with recruiters to refine key interactions, streamline user flows, and iteratively expand the feature set based on their evolving needs.

Solution

We created a Chrome Extension to scrape data directly from LinkedIn. We collected a candidate's profile photo, bio, company experience, and education information. We then matched the company information to People Data Labs and Crunchbase, which provide rich data about the companies. Adding sync dates and displaying the platform data gave recruiters the confidence that the data was up to date. Added functionality to save candidates directly into projects, reducing current workflow steps from 6→1.
